Toxic Cables: The Plot Thickens

I promise the next post will be on a subject other than Toxic Cables, but recent events have brought forth new questions.

In a post on the Hydrogen Audio forum, the owner of Toxic Cables posted the following:

I will also mention that i have only ever once said that Silver/gold is still more conductive then copper, this was after doing my own tests with my Sigma Check unit which i have since sold and do not have the available/spare funds right now to buy another.

This brings to light an interesting conundrum.

If Toxic Cables’ conductivity claim was based on properly executed conductivity tests using the Sigma Check conductivity meter, effectively making the conductivity claim true, then knowing what we do about the conductivity of silver-gold alloys, the claim of 1%+ of gold for the Toxic Cables Silver Widow cable must be false.

Recall that in the Fool’s Gold article we stated that to keep the conductivity of a silver-gold alloy wire at or below that of copper, the amount of gold would have to be kept at or below about 0.2%, well below Toxic Cables’ claim of something greater than 1%. The claim of conductivity being greater than that of copper and the claim of using greater than 1% gold cannot both be true.

So which is the lie?

In a response in the Fool’s Gold article, Toxic Cables offered to provide a sample of their wire so that we could run our own conductivity tests in order to vindicate Toxic Cables’ claims.

To wit:

…give me your address and i will send you some of my wire with which you can carry out conductivity tests and see yourself that what you have written is a lot of made up garbage.

Poster Mel Famie generously offered to carry out such tests and we gladly accepted the offer. However Toxic Cables has not been forthcoming in providing said samples.

Mel Famie has the capability of doing not only the conductivity testing, but also chemical analysis of the wire to determine its gold content relative to silver with an accuracy of +/-0.001%.

So with this post we would like to reiterate our acceptance of the offer made by Toxic Cables to provide samples of their wire for testing and analysis.

  1. I just received your email you pathetic little man.

Send samples to Mel Famie, the same Mel Famie that backs you up on everything on head-fi, the same Mel Famie that started posting links to your last post on my Facebook page, you are having a laugh.

Look at the end posts on Hydrogen Audio, everyone knew this is just an attempt by you to muddy my name, they knew exactly what you was up to.

It’s not very hard to get hold of my wire, there are thousands of them out there, go and buy one, lube it and stick it up your arse, am am sure that will make it super conductive.

BTW Steve, are you still living with your mother. Very sad to see a man at your age is still single and living at home with mum. No wonder you have so much time on your hands.

    Stop emailing me.

    1. We can’t imagine why Frank would portray someone who has never married and is caring for an aged mother who lost her husband in such a negative light when his own arrangements involve living as a divorcée in the home of his ex-wife and her new lover.

This is some sort of “higher ground”?

Being a divorcée is better than not having married? Your ex-wife and her lover sharing their home with you is better than your widowed mother sharing her home with you?

We don’t get it, other than the fact that all Frank has had to offer so far is ad hominem and is just being consistent with that line of attack.

We would love to see some relevant facts brought to the table, but Frank does not appear to be in possession of any.

  2. And i will even make this offer, you find a credible lab to carry out any tests they like and i will send wire directly to that lab, not a friend of yours that will say what you want him to.

You can also cover any associated costs.

    1. We have a credible lab to do the testing. But I think we would rather take your previous advice and acquire a Toxic Cables Silver Widow cable on the open market and perform the testing on it instead. That would avoid any chance of your being able to cherry pick something to send as a sample which may or may not be exemplary of what you are using to make your actual cables.

      Thank you for the suggestion.

  3. I am always careful to explain exactly how my experiments are set up, the equipment used, and the results, so that anyone can understand the measurements and replicate them. We call this “science.” Our lab uses world-class equipment run by PhD analytical chemists.

If you’re confident in your claims and the experimental evidence supports them, I will report that and back you up. If the experimental evidence shows that your claims are false, I will report that as well. If you disagree with the data, the nature of science is to have open discussions and determine where errors are made and correct them.

  4. I think anyone will understand my concerns of having someone who has already made up their mind carrying out tests on my wire, you went as far as to post links to these blogs on my Facebook page to try and damage my reputation, what makes you think i would trust you one bit, given that you are also friends with the author of the blog.
    I think i will pass.

I am in the process of finding labs so this shit can be put to rest and Steve shown as what he really is.

Yes Steve, and anyone will believe any tests you post yourself, having cherry picked a wire to send for testing that supports your claims.

    1. The only thing our minds are made up on is that you cannot have an alloy of silver and gold whose gold content is a minimum of 1% and be left with an alloy whose electrical conductivity is greater than that of pure copper.

This is not a matter of opinion, but a well established fact that goes back over 100 years. The conductivity of various silver-gold alloys can be predicted mathematically to a high degree of precision. And to date, you have offered absolutely nothing to refute this well established fact.

There are only two possibilities here.

Either your conductivity claims are correct and your wire contains no appreciable amount of gold, or your wire contains at least 1% gold and your conductivity claims are incorrect.

Our only goal here is to establish which is the case. And it can be accomplished with or without your help. You apparently have chosen the latter so we will proceed to acquire a sample of your cable through other means.

  5. A good friend of yours as i pointed out before, another known cable manufacturer made similar claims to yours before and purchased a cable saying he will be having it tested and guess what, i never heard back from him again after he received the cable 😉

    1. We cannot speak for the person you refer to here, but I can assure you that any sample received will be sent straight to Mel Famie who will execute both conductivity tests as well as chemical analysis.

If there is any doubt that a sample will just sit around collecting dust, it was Mel Famie who conducted the SEM/EDX analysis of the materials used in the Synergistic Research HOT device within a week or so of a sample having been obtained.

Analysis of the Toxic Cables Silver Widow will be conducted with the same expediency.

  6. Steve’s latest emails to me,

It is not a wise idea to try and make public arguments about people’s living arrangements.

I’ll give you a chance to edit your post.

    Followed by,

Seriously, dude. I’m giving you 12 hours to remove the last paragraph in that one post of yours. Otherwise, gloves come off and the issue won’t be the Toxic Cables Silver Widow cable, but Frank’s Family Values, for all the world to run to the loo hurling chunks over.

  7. And let me again point out, having samples tested by a friend of yours who has also tried to tarnish my reputation by posting your blogs on my Facebook page has no credence.

Why don’t you go to an independent well known lab, is that because you won’t get the results you want that way.

  8. And another….

    Your move.

And that’s just a love tap. Your dossier is pretty thick, but we’ve opted to not use the nuclear option. Yet.

    1. Jesus – I’m reading this website for the first time in 2017 – having ordered Frank’s stuff before – and wondering how such a non-thinly veiled threat (“but we’ve opted to not use the nuclear option”) from Mr cables expert, Frank, is tolerated. How is that a nice way to run a business, Frank?? Err…..”I’m confident in my products, but don’t bring your science shit to the table otherwise we know where you live”. Is that how you and your forum lackeys deal with any backchat, Frank? I’d hoped you might be above that. It’s just frigging hifi.

    1. All you have managed to do Frank is just further drive home the glaring fact that you have completely failed to address the facts presented in the two articles published here with anything of substance. I think it is safe to assume by now that that will never happen and our readers will just have to wait for the analysis of the sample cable once one has been obtained.
